"A Rotten Tradition" is a pastel pencil "painting" which was inspired by my discomfort with old holiday traditions such as these which are no longer appropriate for our time. 

If you look closely, you will see that some of the food is rotting and covered in mold, and that there are ants beginning to crawl over the food.

Knowing what we do about Thanksgiving & the treatment of the Native Americans, I wanted to create something that outwardly looked beautiful, yet upon closer look was ugly.  Thanksgiving in its traditional sense is a holiday that commemorates an oppressor and a very ugly time in our nation's history.  Yes, we should be thankful, but perhaps we can spend Thanksgiving learning about & respecting the Native American culture we stole from.  Just as society is finally starting to discuss changing how we celebrate this holiday due to this stain on our history, this cornucopia is starting to rot.
