Nasty Woman, was a piece that I created out of frustration and anger. Having been just a short couple years since the presidential election I was feeling as though it had already been an eternity. I didn't want to forget (although I now know I never will be able to even if I want to) how horrid Trump's behaviour towards women has been & that there was a large part of our country who decided to disbelieve, look away or enforce that behaviour. Women have been treated like dirt for too long and finally it was becoming a national discussion again. It was a pivotal moment in history when Trump took office, and all the sweeter when Kamala Harris became the first woman (and black!) vice president.
I painted the woman's image first from a cast in the studio where I was apprenticing. This was the most generic looking cast I could find & I painted it in its actual grey tones to portray that this woman is meant to represent all women. Visually she certainly does not, however I hope part of the idea is still there for the viewer as all women have much to face in our world. Trump's words may be trying to choke and crush this woman, yet she remains calm and strong in her character. Like I know so many women have and will continue to do. We are a force that cannot be stopped.
